For the first time in my life I don’t know what my next move is.  There are so many options, but I don’t know where to go.

The other day I was watching some children.  I wore my wrist brace since my wrist had been bothering me lately (I think it’s carpel tunnel).

“I wish I had to wear that,” said the little girl next to me.

It’s Okay To Look Back

Keep going.  Move forward.  Don’t look back.

We are told these things growing up.  It is meant as an encouragement.  We’re told to never give up, to reach for the stars.  Don’t let our pasts hold us back.

But what if we reach the point where the only way to move forward is to work through our pasts?

Whose Lives REALLY MATTER?

“The girl with the brown skin. . .”

That’s how I described my third-grade best friend to my mom – before I knew about racism, before I knew about slavery.  To me it was as simple as describing someone’s hair color.  I loved my best friend, and I didn’t see her any different from myself.  We played together every day at recess, and I even shared with her the secret of my crush from second grade.

I love coming to the beach.  I’ve come at least once a year for the entirety of my being.  It’s so relaxing to sit in the sun and let the salty breeze envelope you with the taste of the ocean.
